The Biggest Lie We Were Told About Money
Real world financial education for the Caribbean and our diaspora. No jargon, no shame, no overwhelm. Learn to budget, save, invest, manage debt, and build real wealth, one confident step at a time.
“Just save your money.”
If you grew up in the Caribbean, chances are you’ve heard that phrase hundreds of times. I know I did. Save your money. Don’t waste your money. Put money aside.
And to be fair, that’s not bad advice. Saving matters. The problem is that for many of us, the lesson stopped there. Nobody explained what comes after saving. Nobody explained investing, compound growth, or wealth building. Nobody explained how money can work for you instead of requiring you to work for it forever.
For many people, saving became nothing more than a waiting room for spending. You saved for Carnival. You saved for Christmas. You saved for school supplies or a trip. Then you spent it, and the cycle started all over again.
There’s nothing wrong with saving for goals. But saving alone rarely creates long-term wealth. That’s where financial education changes everything.
Because money has jobs. Some money should be spent. Some should be saved. Some should be invested. Some should protect you through insurance. And some should be helping Future You.
The challenge isn’t earning money. The challenge is giving every dollar a purpose. Financial literacy helps you do exactly that. Not because you need to become rich overnight, but because you deserve to understand what your money can do, and what it’s capable of becoming.
